Vickerton Family Session

Genuine. 

If you live in the Williamsburg, Virginia area you’ve probably heard of the Vickertons. I swear they are local legends because every single time someone brings up their name in the community I always hear “oh my gosh I love the Vickertons, they’re just the best” 

And wow is that true! I really can’t think of a more genuine and loving family then one that Ronda and Martin have created. Ronda is a schoolteacher and Martin is a soccer coach and they have the cutest 4-year-old twins ever—Rosie and Jude.

For their family portraits, I really wanted to capture this sweet season in their lives…that precious year before Kindergarten begins and life gets hectic. We chose a beautiful spring day in Colonial Williamsburg (CW) and I created a handmade floral ring for the session. Ronda mentioned that they like to go to CW as family on the weekends, so I took them down a lesser-known path so they could explore more of what CW has to offer. There are so many stunning little areas off the main touristy sites and I really wanted to make sure that this session was more about creating family memories than it was about the photos themselves. It really was the perfect Virginia evening with such a wonderful family! 

A few days later, I sat down with Ronda and Martin during their Heirloom Legacy Session to learn about out the story behind those photos and this season in their lives. We talked about how they met (which is the best meet-cute story on an elevator) and how the stars aligned for Martin, born and raised in England, to have even been in that exact spot when he met Ronda an ocean away from where he grew up. They get candid about some losses, how they’ve gotten through the pandemic, and how they leaned on each other to get through some of the tough times. Martin says of Ronda “she’s so sweet and kind and it’s just so genuine” to which Ronda said “He’s my best friend. We bounce everything off of each other”. 

I mean…these two are just meant to be. 

During their photo session, I turned back to look at Ronda and Martin as I was photographing the twins and they both had this look on their faces as they looked on at their son and daughter—it was a look of total pride and unconditional love.
